Description: The slow waltz sets itself apart from the quick tempo used in the Viennese Waltz. With the abundance of time available, filling it out requires a strong use of rise and fall action (and therefore strong use of the knees, ankles and feet), and also allows for a variety of syncopations, which creates a beautiful contrast of quick bursts peppered into the controlled and rolling feel of the dance. Waltz music, both slow and Viennese waltzes, are distinctivley different the other music styles as they are written in 3/4 time. That is there are only 3 beats/measure and most other music for dancing has either 2 or 4 beats/measure. This unique marker of the waltz is what defines it's trademark circular sound, which to some sounds like waves or rolling and gives it an ethereal quality. |
