When the word "Waltz" is mentioned, many people conjure the image of what is actually Viennese Waltz. Having seen scenes of a grand ball in movies, they image graceful couples whirling quickly around the floor in unison. The stately and upbeat tempo of the Viennese Waltz music is markedly different from the flowing quality that defines the Slow Waltz. Both waltzes share the unique 3/4 time signature, which gives them a circular sound.

There are very few patterns in the International Viennese waltz, but with the challenging speed of the music and skills required to navigate around other couples, it does not get dull.
