UPDATE: March 14, 2011
The NDCA has decided to postpone pro-am registration until further notice.
The NDCA (National Dance Council of America), will soon require all pro-am competitors to be registered with the organization. The complete press release below details the reasoning and method for registration, but here are the major points:

NDCA to register Pro/Am Student Dancers Effective April 1, 2011 it will be necessary for all persons participating in NDCA sanctioned competitions and championships to be registered with NDCA. This will include all students entered in Pro-Am/Teacher-Student divisions. The NDCA is delighted that Student Dancer registration is fully supported by both Arthur Murray International, Inc., and Fred Astaire Dance Studios, Inc., who have agreed to register their students that take part in NDCA sanctioned events. There will be no fee for this registration for the remainder of 2011. Commencing in 2012, the annual registration fee will be $35.00 for adults ($20.00 for Pre-Teen, Teen and Youth). Until now, many students have registered on a voluntary basis, and for those students who have paid their fee for 2011, the full amount paid will be credited towards their 2012 registration. Once registration fees for Student Dancers begin to be collected by the NDCA, these fees will be deposited into a separate fund (with the exception of a small amount set aside for administrative expense), and not into the NDCA general administrative fund. This separate fund will be allowed to accrue and will be used as a "catastrophic fund," for which the purpose will be to help teachers that find themselves in dire circumstances. Future plans include events and promotions to increase these funds so that our teachers will have a place to turn when disaster strikes. NDCA will also accept donations to the fund. Additionally, Student Dancer registration with NDCA will permit an international "Student Dancer Ranking List" to be developed that will encompass all Student Dancers competing in the USA. This ranking list will be available to all on the NDCA web-site. Special assistance with this registration will be provided by NDCA to organizers whose events fall in the first three months of 2012. A Registration Form was designed for NDCA by the officers of NADOA (North American Dance Organizer's Association) and one of these forms should be completed for each Student Dancer competing in NDCA sanctioned events. The form is available for download on the NDCA web site (www.ndca.org). The NDCA is sensitive to the fact that studios and teachers may not wish information pertaining to their students to be sent to NDCA, therefore, as the registration form shows, registration by Student Dancers may be made through their studio, or through their teacher, thereby keeping contact information private to the studio or teacher. Many Student Dancers are independent, therefore should the Student Dancer prefer, they may register directly with NDCA using the same form. All forms should be e-mailed or snail-mailed to the NDCA Ballroom Department Registrar at the following addresses. E-mail: Eleanor_wiblin@byu.edu Snail-mail: Ms. Eleanor Wiblin, P.O. Box 22198, Provo, UT 84062 Telephone: 801-422-8124 Once the registration form is received, the Registrar will issue each student with a unique registration number and an ID card containing that number will be sent to the Student Dancer via whichever venue their registration was received, or directly to the address supplied. Also accompanying this bulletin you will find a descriptive brochure that can be printed and given to all students. The brochure, together with the information contained in this Bulletin, will enable teachers and studios to speak knowledgeably with their students on this critical issue. Please feel free to contact the registrar, Ms. Eleanor Wiblin, or any NDCA officer if you should have any questions regarding Student Dancer registration. |
