It's not just the stunningly gorgeous ladies that get admired on the dance floor-dashing, handsome, sexy guys put not only their best foot forward when they get out on the floor, but their best appearance too. Sure, getting ready for the guys doesn't include full body tanning, intricate hairstyling, and expert makeup application, but even the guys have to transform themselves before setting foot on the floor. |
| Maybe the first thing you might notice that's different between seeing your favorite competitior on and off the floor, is their hair. Untidy hair is a distraction, even a stray strand flying off here and there can be bothersome, so be sure to get the right products for your hair type and length that will keep it in it's place. You'll be spinning, bouncing, moving the head dramatically, not to mention sweating and maybe having your partner touch or bump your head, so a durable product is a must. For hair that doesn't move, use a blowdryer with a super strong spray to set your hair in place, after you've styled it with the appropriate products. | ![]() |
| Just like the ladies, you guys need to sport a good tan (most notably for Latin and Rhythm competitiors). Luckily for you, you aren't going to need full body bronzing, but you might have to consider tanning your chest, arms, and/or face. Aero Tan is a great choice for instant color. Super easy spray application, smells good, applies well on faces and bodies, and it washes off with soap and water. For a complete explanation of the tanning process, check out this earlier article. |
Speaking of chests, you can't rock the caveman look in the ballroom, guys. If you'll be showing your chest or wearing a sleeveless shirt, you need to consider an investment in clippers. Trim or clip your underarms the week before your event if you'll be sporting a tank. Chests can be waxed for the cleanest look, but clipping is much easier and less painful, not too mention leaves a bit of your masculinity in place. Try clipping with a number 4 blade. | ![]() |
![]() | Makeup for guys is not usually a big deal, except for maybe some powdering/bronzing, and any corrective needs. Many makeup brands offer bronzing powders, but they often have a sparkle sheen in them, which guys will want to avoid. Choose a powder which is marked as "matte", so there will be no sheen or sparkle. One of our favorites is Hoola from Benefit Cosmetics. Benefit also has a few other items which may be of interest to the male competitive dancer. |
